Sliver Salon: Sarah Schulman, The Fantasy and Necessity of Solidarity

Sliver

Dublin’s independent queer press, Sliver, is thrilled to welcome Sarah Schulman to Dublin for an evening discussing her latest book, The Fantasy and Necessity of Solidarity. This is a very special edition of Sliver Salon, Sliver’s live author talk series. A lesbian icon, and one of the finest minds writing, working, and thinking today, Schulman’s work, writing, and activism, has and continues to leave an indelible imprint on American and global queer culture. Schulman is the author of 21 books, including novels in multiple genres, and groundbreaking non-fiction works including The Gentrification of the Mind: Witness to a Lost Imagination, and Let The Record Show: A Political History of ACT UP New York, 1987-1993.

Her latest book, The Fantasy and Necessity of Solidarity, is an essential work for our times. Personal, instructive, and deeply informed by Schulman’s long history of activism, Schulman offers a new framing for how the practical successes of solidarity have and can continue to come into being. Schulman was an active member of ACT UP during the 1980s and 1990s, co-founded the New York Lesbian and Gay Experimental Film Festival, co-founded the Lesbian Avengers who founded the Dyke March, co-created the ACT UP Oral History Project, and as an important voice in the BDS movement in the US is also an advisor to Jewish Voice for Peace.

This will be an unmissable event, and is supported by Dublin Municipal Theatre, and presented in collaboration with Sliver, Peninsula Press, Outburst Arts, EAF (Edinburgh Arts Festival), Lavender Menace Queer Books Archive, and London Review of Books. Sliver is supported by the Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaion.
