Trawled

A true story you will never forget…

A jaw-dropping true story set on the Coral Sea, Australia. An Irish backpacker blags his way onto a prawn trawler. There he discovers a rarely seen world of hard labour and harder fishermen, where drinking, fighting, storms and hungry sharks are part of everyday life.
His raw, exuberant story of adventure twists dramatically into one of survival culminating in an unforgettable moment of redemptive grace.
Trawled is a one-man biographical drama. The actor plays himself 25 years younger! This is classic storytelling that plays out like a movie. Ready to come onboard?

Trawled was shortlisted for the PopCorn BBC new writing award at Edinburgh festival fringe 2024.

About The Company
Trawled is Eoin Ryan’s first play. It has toured Ireland and abroad. The play is a biographical true story that happened to him 25 years ago onboard a prawn trawler between Australia and Papua New Guinea. He kept a diary while working on the trawler. Trawled started as a book, then a TEDx talk and now a play. The motivation behind sharing his personal story is to spread the message ‘to ask for help’.
