Based on the original fairy-tale by Hans Christian Andersen
Written by Ian Toner (Winner of the Fishamble New Writing Award 2016)

Gerda and Kay live in a watery town in a watery world. Some time ago, there occurred on Earth a seismic event known as ‘The Melting’, and since then there has not been a single flake of snow nor a single cube of ice. As such, Christmas has been cancelled. Forever.

When the ever curious Kay delves too deeply into the dark and potentially deadly world of the mysterious Snow Queen, he disappears, and Gerda is forced to go out into a dangerous and unforgiving world in search of her best friend.

Along the way she will meet killer whales, cut-throat pirates, and a once-famous dynamic Christmas gift giving duo called Nick and Rudolpho.

This new adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairytale re-imagines this timeless story for the modern world. A fiercely funny and highly energetic production, it utilises puppetry and song to bring this sprawling adventure bursting to life. It also illuminates the very modern relevance of Andersen’s quintessential story of good vs. evil, and man’s relationship with the natural world.
