Bum Notes
A musical that flies by the seat of our pants..
Bum Notes (and a very special guest) are back in Smock Alley with a 4th of July improvized musical! And no it won’t be about Hamilton… well it could be. It is improv after all.
Performing with them — for one night only — will be American improv legend, Derek Miller! A Chicago native now living in the UK, Derek was a mainstay of the L.A. improv community — performing and teaching for over 30 years at The Second City, IOWest, and UCB. He performed with “Opening Night: The Improvised Musical!” in over 1000 performances. On screen he worked on Scrubs, The Goldbergs, Superstore, Drunk History, Transformers 3 and more recently with Tim Burton and Edgar Wright! But most importantly, he’s the reason Bum Notes exists at all!
With him added to their belt, their pants are now bursting at the seams with humour, talent, and a readiness to craft your suggestion into a brand spanking new, once-off, fully-realised, on-the-spot musical!
Come see this sell-out sensation and enjoy what happens when you let the story, songs, and characters of Broadway get written in real time by some of Ireland and America’s silliest improv comics.
OPENING THE SHOW will be the incredible Auto-Correbt—one of Ireland’s longest running long-form improv groups with shows in Edinburgh Fringe, Dublin Fringe & Hoopla London.

ABOUT THE COMPANY
Bum Notes is Ireland’s first improvised musical team. Our cast’s backgrounds are in Ireland’s improv comedy scene, having all trained up within a year of each other. After a few musical improv workshops from none other than Derek Miller we knew we were hooked and we fully teamed up after finding the music marvel that is Paul Prior and applying to the Scene + Heard festival. We started performing in January 2024, and since then every show we’ve been a part of has been a sell out.
