Smashing Times Theatre Company are hosting two performances of Testimonies by Paul Kennedy and Mary Moynihan, the first at 1pm, open to schools only and the second at 7.30pm, open to the public.

The performance of the highly acclaimed Testimonies by Paul Kennedy and Mary Moynihan consists of dramatic monologues adapted from experiences of those who have lost loved ones to suicide and the experiences of those who have been through a suicidal or mental health crisis and survived. The performance is followed by a post-show panel discussion with the artists and invited guest speakers from the Samaritans and other organisations.
Audience members are invited to discuss the issues raised.
Testimonies consists of:
A Day Out, by Paul Kennedy, tells the story of two friends in their twenties and their last day together. Directed by Bairbre Ní Chaíomh, performed by Ben Waddell.
In One Breath is a portrait of a woman in the eye of the storm, battling a mental health crisis. Written and directed by Mary Moynihan, performed by Evelyn Shaw.
If You Could Read My Mind by Paul Kennedy tells the story of a young woman experiencing self-harm. Directed by Bairbre Ni Chaoímh, performed by Roisin Mc Atamney.
Testimonies is presented as part of an on-going project called Acting for the Future which uses participative theatre workshops, professional performances and post-show panel discussions to promote active healthy lifestyles and positive mental health. The project is delivered in secondary schools, universities and with a range of youth and adult groups and the general public. As part of this project, adults and young people develop a stronger awareness of the issues – active healthy lifestyles, positive mental health and suicide prevention – through a quality arts experience.

Acting for the Future is implemented by Smashing Times in partnership with the Samaritans and Irish Association of Suicidology and funded by ESB Electric Aid Ireland, HSE Lottery Funds and the Dublin Bus Community Spirit Award.
