Entr’acte Musical Theatre and Drama Society

Brian Friel’s classic play is a love letter to memory, bringing us into the lives of the five Mundy sisters the summer that everything changes.

Set in Donegal in 1936, Brian Friel’s award winning play centers on the five Mundy sisters, who live with their older brother, a priest just returned from Uganda, and the youngest sister’s seven year old son, Michael. Narrated by a grown up Michael, this play explores memory, family, and public and private life against a backdrop of the tension between Christianity and paganism.

ABOUT THE COMPANY
The society’s goal is to be bold & innovative, providing young professionals with a platform to perform and create impactful theatre and art.

Entr’acte debuted their inaugural musical, Spring Awakening in Smock Alley Theatre in January 2023 and after a sold-out run, the show ran again in April of 2023. The team went on to win Best Overall Show in the Sullivan section at the 2023 AIMs awards and Best Direction, Best Musical Direction and Best Choreography.

Entr’acte has also established a successful choir and orchestra. Directed by Gráinne Larkin and Róisín Heenan the choir competes at AIMS Choral Festival and stages a concert alongside the orchestra, directed by Catríona Atkinson, in December and May.

Entr’acte produces a full scale musical and play per society year. In 2025 their production of Sweeney Todd won Best Overall Show at the AIMS Awards in the Gilbert section – meaning Entr’acte has won best overall show twice in its four years of competing.

In 2025 Entr’acte produced Our Town by Thornton Wilder which was met with incredible audience reception, and in February 2026 Entr’acte produced Jesus Christ Superstar which garnered a 5 star review from The Arts Review.

REVIEWS FOR THE COMPANY
***** “For an ‘amateur’ musical society Entr’acte certainly put many professional companies to shame.” Chris O’Rourke, The Arts Review on Jesus Christ Superstar

***** “There’s professional and then there’s professional. Usually, professional means a paid gig. But there are also professional standards, which many paid gigs struggle to live up to… Entr’acte’s professional standards are second to none.” Chris O’Rourke, The Arts Review on Jesus Christ Superstar
