Castle Gillian, Based on the Novel by Maurice Walsh

Entr’acte Musical Theatre and Drama Society

Castle Gillian An Irish Tale – The Musical, tells the story of Gill Morris, a young Irishman profoundly damaged by his experiences in the Second World War who must regain his faith in love, and the world, in order to save his ancestral home – and once famous Irish racing stable, Castle Gillian.

It is 1948. Gill has lost all faith in humanity. Creditors plan to foreclose on his home, his father is befuddled with drink, and his wealthy childhood sweetheart Sylvia – heartbroken at his apparent indifference – breaks off their engagement. The only hope of saving Castle Gillian is if his younger sister Mary marries Garrett Ward, a known bully and womaniser.

Castle Gillian was originally devised and built as a stage musical within a 360˚ game world. Visit www.castlegillian.com for more information.

The writers, Victor Kazan (book & lyrics) and Kevin Purcell (music) have said, “We are privileged to be working with Entr’acte in this staged concert version of this new musical to further explore the cadence and pronunciation of native Irish actors in English-sung musical theatre.”

ABOUT THE COMPANY
Entr’acte is a Dublin-based musical theatre and dramatic society founded in the midst of the global pandemic in 2020. The society’s goal is to be bold and innovative, providing a platform to perform and create impactful theatre and art. After running online workshops and classes in the beginning stages, the group’s first in person performance took place in May 2022, with their inaugural showcase staged in Liberty Hall. In January 2023, Entr’acte presented their inaugural musical, Spring Awakening, in Smock Alley Theatre. After a sold-out run, the show ran again in April. The team went on to win Best Overall Show at the 2023 AIMS Awards, along with Best Direction, Best Musical Direction and Best Choreography.

In January of 2024 the group staged a successful run of Constellations by Nick Payne in Smock Alley Theatre, followed by Guys & Dolls in St Patrick’s Auditorium, DCU in February, which received a nomination for Best Choreographer for Leah Meagher at this year’s AIMS Awards and The Shadow of a Gunman in Smock Alley Theatre in October.

This will be Entr’acte’s second production of 2025, following their run of Sweeney Todd the Demon Barbery of Fleet Street in O’Reilly Theatre in February. Additionally, The Entr’acte Choir, established in 2022, has been an active part of the society, most recently performing their Christmas concert in St. Mary’s Church, Haddington Road, alongside the newly established Entr’acte Orchestra. The choir also enjoyed competing for their second year in the New Ross Choral Festival with AIMS, taking home two first-place prizes.
