One of the biggest names in spoken word, Kate Tempest’s powerful storytelling and unique delivery has seen her cross over between the worlds of poetry and hip-hop, embraced by both the literary and music camps.

Prolifically creative, she has won prestigious awards for her poetry and seen two of her plays tour. Unflinching, passionate and brimming with empathy, her work explores themes of desire and belonging, myths, relationships and how people interact with one another.

In her first novel ‘The Bricks that Built the Houses’ she takes characters from her Mercury-nominated first album Everybody Down and makes them the protagonists of her plot – taking the reader into the beating heart of the capital, giving us irresistible stories of hidden lives in a multi-generational tale.

Presented as part of The Gutter Bookshop’s ‘Writers at Smock Alley’ series, this is sure to be a unique and unmissable evening with a bright new literary talent.
